Join the Friends of Asian Arts and Cultures’ very first in-person event, a free public lecture at Kalamazoo Institute of Arts by Dr. Hanmo Zhang, WMU alumnus, visiting scholar at University of Chicago, Professor of Renmin University of China. Registration requested.
Using both textual and archaeological materials, this talk shows how an unprovenanced rare bronze mirror with a designed silk backing is related to the relatively well documented Wu Zixu story in early Chinese history. It not only details the process of deciphering the art design on the silk backing, but also reveals the rather complex relationship between text and image. View event flyer
