Research, Innovation, and Creative Scholarship Celebration Week: “Project Belonging” in the Haworth College of Business

Posted by Christine Stamper for Research and Innovation

As part of a broader initiative to examine dropout rates of Haworth College of Business (HCOB) students, the marketing department faculty conducted a two-phase project to investigate the sense of belonging among HCOB students. Completed in spring 2023, the HCOB survey (phase one) data showed that two subgroups (African Americans/Black and LGBTQ+ students) have a significantly lower sense of belonging than other HCOB students. This merited scrutiny and self-examination which was explored through focus groups (phase two). This research presentation will share the insights gleaned from phase one and phase two of this work and provide meaningful ideas for how we can all contribute to the sense of belonging for our students. As we’ve learned through this work, it takes only one to create a sense of belonging for another. Join us for this important session.
