Svetlana Stone is an immigration advisor in International Admissions and Services at Western Michigan University. She serves as a Designated School Official through the Student and Exchange Visitor Program and as an Alternate Responsible Officer for WMU's Exchange Visitor Program. She assists students with private appointments for complex F-1 visa immigration issues and is the counselor on duty for the Friday open advising hours.
Stone's experience working in a temporary position with the WMU International Department inspired her to earn her Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership with an emphasis on Student affairs & Higher education (HESA) Leadership in Higher Education in 2010. Following graduation from WMU, Stone worked at Colleagues International as a program officer and an international student program coordinator. Her passion lead her to accept a position at WMU in 2015 as an F-1 immigration advisor in Immigration Services.
Stone, a native of Latvia, is fluent in three languages (Latvian, Russian and English), and is excited to work at the Haenicke Institute and apply her knowledge, skills and unique experiences working with diverse, multicultural international student populations. In her spare time, she enjoys singing, cooking, and spending time with her family.
