Pooling
Endowment assets are pooled and maintained similarly to a mutual fund, in that each endowment maintains its separate identity; however, the assets are commingled with all endowments for purposes of investment and accounting efficiencies.
Pooling the endowment assets provides the opportunity to develop a more diversified investment portfolio, which should ultimately maximize long-term investment performance.
The WMU Foundation endowment pool investment structure comprises a diversified mix of investments, including global equity, real assets, global fixed income, and diversifying asset strategies.
As of December 31, 2015, the endowment pool held more than 900 individual endowments.
