Dr. Timothy Light, professor emeritus of comparative religion and a longtime champion of international education at Western, died Dec. 14, 2025, in Kalamazoo.

After teaching in Hong Kong and later serving in leadership roles at Kalamazoo College, Light came to WMU in 1991 as a distinguished visiting professor. He was granted tenure in 1992, teaching comparative religion with a focus on Chinese traditions. From 1993 to 2000, he served as provost, overseeing academic initiatives.
