Electrical Shop Specialist

General summary

Supports instruction and research in the department by providing technical services concerning scientific instruments, computer hardware, software and other equipment. Supervises electronics shop.

Major duties

  • Calibrates, modifies, constructs, troubleshoots, and repairs scientific instruments and related equipment for instructional and research purposes.
  • Installs and supports computer hardware and software. Repairs computer hardware.
  • Coordinates and/or conducts the ordering, inventory, storage, and maintenance of electronics shop supplies and equipment. Maintains electronics shop records. Supervises electronics shop.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for the use of departmental computing and auxiliary equipment. Ensures adherence to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Provides instruction on purchases of instruments, computers, and other equipment.
  • Manages some departmental databases.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Two years’ relevant experience.

Physical requirements

Moderate work occasionally working in difficult position or with physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials from 25 to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting or moving materials greater than 50 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
