General summary

Supervises the music sound studio. Provides professional quality recording services to the University.

Major duties

  • Manages the recording studio as a self-sustaining business.
  • Designs, plans and teaches a sequence of courses in audio engineering that includes basic concepts of multitask recording a digital audio workstation.
  • Develops and implements strategies for keeping the studio current with new technology.
  • Hires, trains and supervises student employees and other staff to provide a range of services.
  • Schedules student employees to record concerts.
  • Plans and schedules preventative maintenance and repairs of equipment and electrical connections in the studio.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with various recording studios, production companies and sound reinforcement companies.
  • Participates in various committees and trips as requested.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Two years’ relevant experience

Physical requirements

Moderate work occasionally working in difficult position or with physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials from 25 to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting or moving materials greater than 50 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
