General summary

Operates and maintains pilot plant machinery.

Major duties

  • Provides customer service to internal and external clients. Assists clients with make up and process additions. Provides information and instruction on equipment and instrument operations. Coordinates incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Performs routine maintenance on Pilot Plant equipment and performs plant housekeeping functions. Maintains the receiving, storage and shipping areas.
  • Reports the commodity inventory to the supervisor. Maintains an inventory of replacement parts for pilot plant equipment.
  • Provides instruction on material handling, processes operations and equipment use to faculty, staff and students. Trains new pilot plant operators on plant operations and the use of various equipment.
  • Supervises students who assist with running machinery.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Required experience

  • Two years' relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of the paper-making, printing and coating processes.

Physical requirements

Heavy work frequently working in difficult work positions or with physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials greater than 50 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is performed in an environment with extremely disagreeable or hazardous working conditions with exposure to any number of elements and hazards on a continual basis.
