General summary

Directs the University’s internal and external communications to all audiences through electronic media and establishes policies, standards and technical solutions for mission-critical communications and initiatives.

Major duties

  • Directs communications strategies to strengthen brand, increase visibility and drive fundraising results for University advancement.
  • Serves on the MarCom leadership team.
  • Oversees the scheduling of projects. Ensures that creative assets are completed in an efficient manner. Refines messages for specific and segmented audiences.
  • Assesses effectiveness of communications by defining metrics and methodologies for measuring results. Ensures compliance with communications laws and regulations.
  • Serves as a resource to various constituency groups on projects and messaging. Communicates directly with University staff.
  • Responsible for the area budget.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution, or Bachelor’s degree in a non-related field from a accredited institution combined with relevant experience.

Required experience

  • Five years’ relevant experience.
  • Experience with mass email and text messaging technology, content management systems and relevant Web programming languages.
  • Project management experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Desired qualifications

Desired experience

  • Three years’ experience using the University’s publisher platform software.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well lit temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
