General summary

Monitors and assists in the University’s compliance with policy regarding civil rights laws and regulations. Investigates and mediates formal and informal discrimination complaints. Assists the University in the recruitment and retention of a diverse workforce and student body.

Major duties

  • Investigates and resolves formal and informal discrimination and harassment complaints. Ensures fair and neutral process for all parties. Reviews and analyzes documents and other evidence. Prepares investigative reports.
  • Assists with the development, implementation and administration of affirmative action program and plan. Reviews and signs off on all hiring documents. Monitors and provides feedback about hiring process.
  • Researches, develops and coordinates projects and processes designed to maintain and enhance the University’s commitment to affirmative action, equal opportunity, equality and nondiscrimination.
  • Designs and conducts outreach, education and training, and disseminates information on laws, regulations and guidelines for protected group harassment and discrimination, including sexual misconduct and equitable hiring.
  • Reviews current systems related to the University’s employee selection procedures, affirmative action, equal opportunity and governmental reporting and requirements. Recommends appropriate changes to assist in implementation, monitoring and corrective action.
  • Facilitates accommodation requests for employees with disabilities. Assists in resolving issues for employees and students with disabilities.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years’ relevant experience.
  • Experience and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Experience with computer applications, word processing and presentation programs.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state civil rights regulations relating to employment and education.
  • Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Collaboration and team work skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex tasks with accuracy and professionalism.

Desired qualifications

Desired education

  • Master’s degree or higher in a related field from an accredited institution.

Desired experience

  • Work experience in higher education, the legal system or a related enforcement or government agency.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
