General summary

Provides technical support for students, faculty and staff in the design and innovation studio and lab.

Major duties

  • Provides technical support and instruction in use of equipment, product design techniques and digital fabrication processes.
  • Oversees and maintains studio and lab facilities to ensure machinery and equipment is installed and operating correctly and safety procedures and regulations are followed.
  • Serves as liaison between other departments to coordinate maintenance, repairs and activities related to the building.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Some relevant experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of software, tools, equipment and techniques relevant to a contemporary shop.
  • Ability to maintain and perform repairs on shop equipment.
  • Ability to teach prototyping fundamentals and advanced techniques in product design and construction.
  • Knowledge of digital fabrication equipment, software and techniques including use of Computerized Numerical Control router, laser cutter/engraver and 3D printing equipment.
  • Ability to make informed decisions on repair and purchase of software, tool and equipment for the departments programs.

Physical requirements

Light work with some physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
