General summary

Coordinates, collaborates, and establishes prevention and intervention systems which support efforts across campus and the community to assist at risk students and students facing crises, life traumas, and other barriers that impede success and well-being.

Major duties

  • Provides crisis intervention for students in distress, at risk, and in crisis. Assesses and meets with students exhibiting symptoms of distress. Connects students with internal and external resources.
  • Collaborates with student affairs leadership to manage and resolve situations involving students in active crisis.
  • Manages and maintains recordkeeping using an electronic data base system, analyses data, prepares reports in compliance with University, local, state, and federal reporting guidelines.
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with campus community resources, student support networks, professional associations, and key stakeholders, to develop a coordinated, multi-disciplinary approach to responding to advocating for, and supporting students.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master’s degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills, including active listening.

Required other

  • Licensure as a Master-level Social Worker (LMSW) in the State of Michigan, a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Michigan, or a Limited License Psychologist (LLP) in the State of Michigan.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
