General summary

Assists faculty and staff with research development and proposal preparation. Coordinates pre-award activities relating to grant and contract proposal activities and supervises the grant writing and submission processes.

Major duties

  • Coordinates proposal preparation, internal approvals, and electronic submissions. Ensures compliance with University and funding source policies and procedures. Ensures deadlines and requirements are met.
  • Advises and assists faculty and staff in completing administrative and budgetary requirements, including compliance with federal regulations or other funding source regulations.
  • Consults with faculty on research areas and funding options. Assembles multidisciplinary teams in response to requests for proposals and assists principal investigator in grant development.
  • Assists faculty and staff with proposal budget development. Ensures budgets meet University and sponsor requirements while providing the necessary support for project completion.
  • Develops and implements research-related professional development seminars and workshops for University faculty and staff to increase capacity and promote discovery.
  • Certifies grants for electronic submission and assists with post-award items such as subcontract development.
  • Manages research administration software including troubleshooting problems, consulting with software vendors, modifies to incorporate new features, and trains other research administrators and faculty on its use.
  • Participates in campus committees, and work groups as assigned to represent the University research community.

Minimum qualifications

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Budget development and budget management experience.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
