General summary

Develops, implements, and manages energy conservation and utility monitoring programs.

Major duties

  • Provides ongoing demand and consumption analysis on campus energy utilities including electricity, gas, steam, water, and sewer.
  • Identifies opportunities to reduce energy consumption. Develops and presents recommendations for energy conservation projects.
  • Provides technical direction and subject matter expertise on energy reduction projects.
  • Plans and budgets for energy reduction and energy monitoring goals
  • Recommends and promotes policies and standards to advance the University's energy conservation goals.
  • Manages and develops the University's electric and steam distribution monitoring systems.
  • Coordinates participation in energy management or sustainability programs offered through external utility providers or other agencies.
  • Represents the unit in University groups working on energy conservation.
  • Provides review for all facilities design activities relating to energy usage.
  • Advises maintenance shops on energy-efficient operation of building mechanical systems

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Two years’ relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Required other

  • AEE Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or ability to attain within one year of hire.
  • United States Green Building Council LEED AP Credential or ability to attain within one year of hire.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
