General summary

Manages landscape projects and day-to-day landscape maintenance.

Major duties

  • Reviews and prioritizes projects, assigns to appropriate staff, and determines budgets, materials, and timelines. Monitors budgets and approves expenses.
  • Coordinates projects with other facilities management units and external contractors.
  • Monitors work for quality and compliance with work standards. Manages contracted services.
  • Provides leadership in developing and maintaining selection and training procedures for the landscape services.
  • Serves as the University’s representative regarding deeds, restrictions, and activities of natural areas and preserves. Surveys properties for safety, cleanliness, and ecosystem health.
  • Oversees daily operations to ensure a productive and safe work environment, compliance with human resources policies and procedures, and collective bargaining agreements with University policies and procedures.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff and students.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years’ relevant experience.
  • Supervisory experience in a collective bargaining environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Project management experience.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Experience administering a collective bargaining agreement.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulations.

Required other

  • Must be able to work outside exposed to temperature extremes.

Physical requirements

Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
