General summary

Supervises a crew of custodial and skilled trades staff in daily maintenance assignments.

Major duties

  • Manages University maintenance tradespeople.
  • Coordinates with University project managers to estimate labor needs for projects.
  • Reviews, prioritizes and distributes work assignments for the custodial and maintenance crew.
  • Distributes and collects keys, radios and any necessary equipment; collects these at the end of each shift.
  • Inspects areas daily to ensure quality standards are maintained. Creates and updates electronic work orders.
  • Monitors compliance with safety procedures. Maintains work and inspection records.
  • Documents discipline, safety issues, or other issues.
  • Communicates with building coordinators, occupants, vendors, and contractors.
  • Approves and verifies billings and invoices for University tradespeople.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required experience

  • One year’s relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Required other

  • Relevant industry certification, or the ability to obtain the certification within six months from hire date.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including weekends and holidays.

Desired experience

  • Supervisory experience in a collective bargaining environment.
  • Experience administering a collective bargaining agreement.

Physical requirements

Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
