General summary

Interprets prescription orders and dispenses prescription medication to the University community. Provides education regarding medication use, interactions and side effects.

Major duties

  • Interprets and fills prescription orders. Ensures standard protocols for accuracy are met.
  • Counsels patients and provides written documentation regarding intended use, medication use, side effects and interactions.
  • Places orders to wholesale and directs accounts to maintain inventory. Returns outdated merchandise and recalled items.
  • Assists in providing educational supervision to pharmacy interns.
  • Provides work direction to pharmacist technicians.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • One year's relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Required other

  • State of Michigan Board of Pharmacy license.
  • Controlled Substance license.
  • Preceptor license.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
