General summary
Provides nursing care, health education and health counseling.
Major duties
- Provides nursing care using standardized nursing protocols as well as department policies and procedures.
- Provides intake and patient assessment and diagnostics. Provides patient education and instruction regarding illness treatment, follow-up care and health maintenance.
- Evaluates travel itineraries for external community members, staff and study abroad students. Assesses required vaccination and medication needs for itinerary and administers vaccines. Orders appropriate medications.
- Utilizes an electronic medical record system. Ensures accurate documentation and appointment scheduling consisting with needs of patient and continuity of care.
- Collaborates with clinicians regarding specialized health care needs for patients. Ensures patient confidentiality in accordance with federal law.
- Makes assessments regarding patient care emergencies.
- Supervises support staff in execution of patient care in various clinical settings to include urgent care.
- Actively participates in all clinical activities at the student health center to include policy and procedure development and revision, improvements, in patient flow and development and execution of new clinical services.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Associate's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three years' relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Electronic health records experience.
Required other
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
