General summary

Directs the University’s Upward Bound grant program. Ensures the programs success through effective and sustainable practices.

Major duties

  • Provides leadership and vision for the University’s Upward Bound grant program. Develops programs and activities for target populations. Evaluates program to determine effectiveness of services.
  • Coordinates and oversees collection of all program data. Completes and submits evaluations and reports to the U.S. Department of Education, external partners, agencies and advisory boards.
  • Ensures financial and budgetary accountability. Seeks new funding opportunities in order to enhance programming.
  • Identifies and monitors process improvements and policy changes that ensure services and standards comply with Federal guidelines and regulations as well as university and departmental policies and procedure.
  • Facilitates and oversees collection of all program data for both Upward Bound Projects. Completes and submits all program evaluation and reports to external partners, government agencies, and advisory boards.
  • Serves as program liaison to the funding agency, campus partners, the community and other external partners. Represents the programs to the campus community. Develops marketing strategies to promote the program.
  • Collaborates with the high school and middle school administration and counselors to administer the program according to the grant proposal and coordinate schedules with the high school to provide services to students during the school day.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with federal guidelines and regulations as well as University and department policies and procedures.
  • Conducts applicant intakes, verifies student eligibility for the program, admits students, and provides direct services to students.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff and student employees.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
