General summary

Assists in identifying, locating and utilizing resources for University library users. Provides customer service and technical support.

Major duties

  • Provides assistance for research, technical support and other services, including the interpretation of department policies and procedures. Utilized integrated management software in order to support transactions and inquiries.
  • Ensures a safe environment for users in the process of opening and closing the department. Monitors custodial and maintenance services for the library and initiates appropriate actions if necessary.
  • Assists with hiring, training and scheduling student employees. Supervises student employee interactions in order to ensure high quality customer service.
  • Participates in department projects as required, including collecting statistics, updating webpages and managing supply needs.
  • May handle interlibrary loan borrowing and document delivery processes. May offer support for interlibrary loan and lending services.
  • May oversee the handling and upkeep of physical course reserve materials and controlled digital lending.
  • Offers assistance for electronic reserve materials as needed.
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of copyright regulations and evaluates the copyright compliance status of reserve materials.
  • May work on various departmental projects, including collection of usage statistics for assessment purposes.
  • May assist with creating effective solutions and managing student procedure website.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required experience

  • Two years' relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Required other

  • Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including evenings and weekends.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
