General summary

Coordinates and provides support for the growth of research across campus. Oversees research program strategy development and actively identifies research funding opportunities. Works with all University units to coordinate proposals for federal, state, industry and non-profit sponsors to support major interdisciplinary research activities.

Major duties

  • Oversees University-wide research development, strategy and implementation.
  • Identifies, targets and distributes funding opportunities to faculty.
  • Provides assistance in development and preparation of documents in support of applications, ensuring compliance with federal, state and sponsor requirements.
  • Assists with proposal preparation and ensures that projects remain on schedule.
  • Coordinates large projects involving faculty and administrative staff across campus.
  • Organizes internal and external pre-submission reviews of funding requests by coordinating meetings and other efforts across campus.
  • Identifies internal reviewers and coordinates proposals for major interdisciplinary grants.
  • Assumes responsibility for selection of institutional nominees in cases where the sponsor limits the number of submissions.
  • Creates and maintains a library of boilerplate text for modification and use in applications.

Minimum qualifications

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years’ relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with sponsors, researchers, faculty and administrators.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient office software skills, including work-processing, spreadsheets and presentation software.

  • Demonstrated success in leading a group of researchers toward funding acquisition.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
