General summary

Responsible for determining strategies and tactics at all stages in the development of impactful content, from research and ideation through execution and post-analysis.

Major duties

  • Creates and interprets a creative brief to develop and produce concepts through execution.
  • Serves as content lead for major market initiatives and strategic communication. Collaborates with marketing and design teams on concept, development and execution of content strategies that advance the University’s mission.
  • Produces original content that is compelling, relevant and highlights the University in new and arresting ways that connect with the desired audience and drives action, continuously raises the bar on creativity.
  • Collaborates with the market research team to research and understand target audiences through online searches, reviews existing research, interviews with subject matter experts and in-person meetings.
  • Investigates and understands topics and develops subject matter expertise related to projects.
  • Ensures all content is optimized for search and distribution across platforms, including desktop, mobile, social, video and newsletters.
  • Leverages and incorporates analytics and external market data into content planning and development to ensure that the University creates content of value to its audiences.
  • Builds relationships and demonstrates expert content strategy leadership within a decentralized organization.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Exceptional storytelling skills.
  • Expert understanding of how to identify and evolve narratives.
  • Excellent research and interviewing skills.
  • Ability to think both analytically and creatively, and from the perspective of the target audience.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills and multitasking ability.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and creative software applications.

Desired qualifications

Desired experience

  • Experience working in a content management system.
  • Experience using data to help inform and guide content and marketing strategy.
  • Experience with email, social media, and digital marketing practices and tools.
  • Search engine optimization and analytics savvy.

Physical requirements

Office or other minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
