General summary

Monitors and assists the University's efforts to ensure compliance with applicable University policies, and federal and state civil rights laws and regulations. Conducts investigations and mediates formal and informal complaints of discrimination and harassment.

Major duties

  • Interviews, investigates and mediates formal and informal discrimination and harassment complaints, ensuring fair and neutral process for all parties. Reviews and analyzes documents and other evidence, makes determinations from findings.
  • Assists with implementation and administration of affirmative action program and plan. Consults, reviews and signs off on all hiring documents. Monitors and provides feedback about hiring process.
  • Maintains a working knowledge outreach, education and training, prevention and dissemination of information regarding University policies and state and federal affirmative action and equal employment opportunity, civil rights, and other applicable laws, regulations and guidelines.
  • Facilitates accommodation requests and resolution of issues for employees with disabilities.
  • Researches, develop and facilitate projects and processes designed to maintain and enhance the University’s commitment to affirmative action, equal opportunity, and nondiscrimination.
  • Reviews current systems related to employee selection procedures, affirmative action, equal opportunity and governmental reporting and requirements. Recommends changes to assist with program project implementation, monitoring and corrective action.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • A firm understanding and knowledge of current federal and state laws, statutes and procedures governing Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity.
  • Experience in investigating cases and complying with deadlines.
  • A working knowledge or experience with governmental and enforcement agencies.
  • Excellent listening, oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong human relation, interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Experience and ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Strong office software skills, including word processing, spreadsheets and presentations.

Desired education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
