General summary

Responsible for developing and implementing effective strategies that promote a sense of inclusion and equity for underrepresented students on campus.

Major duties

  • Oversees and manages the daily operations of the departmental unit. Provides direction and leadership to unit and resolves personnel and operational issues.
  • Directs and advises committees and project teams to ensure specific goals are met. Facilitates and monitors the annual submission of reports, evaluations, and other materials as required.
  • Builds and maintains internal and external collaborations, partnerships, and customer relations to ensure successful fulfillments of department goals and missions.
  • Analyses the training needs of the department. Administers and oversees the training and development of the budget.
  • Researches programs, trends, and student development best practices to develop long and short-term strategies.
  • Develops and implements marketing strategies for promoting services and strategies to provide increased academic and social supports for underrepresented students.
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and ensures compliance with University and departmental procedures.
  • Develops and implements risk management procedures and protocols to minimize liability.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master’s degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years’ relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Program management experience.
  • Curriculum development experience.
  • Experience with budget administration.
  • Training or education in diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice principles.

Required other

  • Varied work hours for special projects, committees, presentations, etc. as needed.

Desired qualifications

Desired experience

  • Experience in grant writing for foundations, federal programs, and state programs.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with the minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
