General summary

Responsible for the maps collection, computer mapping services, and managing the University’s institutional repository. Contributes to the functions of various library committees.

Major duties

  • Administers the University’s institutional repository. Creates user profiles and assigns permissions. Ensures integrity of author profiles. Determines site architecture. Develops procedures and forms. Creates metadata and uploads files.
  • Serves as the primary liaison to the repository’s hosting provider. Provides project management when creating large new collections or journals and undergoing vendor transitions.
  • Provides training, technical, and problem-solving support to end-users. Creates annual and ad hoc reports. Provides input to leadership regarding services, platforms, and related items. Answers and resolves questions regarding access to restricted files.
  • Collaborates with faculty and students to create maps for publications, teaching, and research using computer mapping software. Assists with computer mapping based research. Compiles and analyzes data for map creation. Troubleshoots and assists patrons with their computer mapping projects. Markets computer mapping services to the university community. Keeps current on the latest knowledge and innovations in the field.
  • Answers difficult reference questions requiring subject-specific knowledge.
  • Develops, implements, and enforces map collection policies and procedures. Maintains and updates collection documentation, statistics and files.
  • Serves on library committees that develop policies and strategic initiatives. Participates in University-wide committees as assigned. Functions as the historian, webmaster, and resident member for national honors society.
  • Manages map and atlas collection by creating, modifying, and deleting records. Selects items for addition and removal from collection. Maintains large format printer and scanner.
  • Creates and maintains content on University Libraries and national honors society websites. Serves as back up editor for University Libraries website and section manager and content contributor for national honors society. Creates and maintains maps and institutional repository study guides in library systems.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises student employees.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • One year's relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with computer mapping software.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
