General summary

Implements strategies for developing and maintaining internships for University students and alumni by leading marketing, engagement goals and objectives, and outreach to employers and non-profit organizations. Leads efforts to engage all University students in an internship or co-op experience prior to graduation.

Major duties

  • Develops and maintains relationships with employers in the region to establish or expand internship offerings for University students. Serves as the primary internship contact at the University for both internal and external audiences.
  • Targets small businesses, start-ups, non-profits, minority-owned businesses, and businesses with strong diversity, equity, and inclusion programs to develop and foster internship offerings.
  • Markets an internship equity program to regional employers and non-profits, including individual outreach and participating in regional events and programs.
  • Provides support to University departments in incorporating internship offerings as co-curricular elements of their degrees and programs.
  • May serve on employer and non-profit diversity advisory boards to inform campus and employer practices for recruiting and supporting diverse student interns.
  • Creates reports on internship programs progress and outcomes to various audiences including trustees, executive leadership, alumni, and employer partners.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff and student employees.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five year's relevant experience.
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity. Experience working with diverse populations including female and minority owned businesses.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
