General summary

Manages the installation and maintenance of the University's telecommunications network. Collaborates in the design, implementation, and enhancements of the unified communications and collaboration platform.

Major duties

  • Collaborates in the planning and design of the University's telecommunication solution. Leads the installation and maintenance of all telecommunication infrastructure.
  • Prepares the University infrastructure to consolidate and retire deprecated systems. Prepares and implements the infrastructure required for contemporary unified communications solutions.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, monitors and analyzes system messages and log files daily. Performs corrective actions when necessary.
  • Provides highly advanced daily operational guidance for University telecommunication software, and video teleconferencing equipment.
  • Provides training to end-users. Develops support programs and documentation for end-user training.
  • Researches and recommends hardware and software solutions. Provides recommendations for equipment and service contracts.
  • Manages and works directly with vendors, manufacturers, and service providers to ensure network and communications system integrity.

Required education

  • Bachelors’ degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Direct experience with and knowledge of Private Branch Exchange, voicemail, Primary Rate Interface, Session Initiation Protocol, H.323 protocols.
  • Direct experience with analog and VoIP voice communication systems, enterprise call management, voice gateway, integrated voicemail, call center, and audio and video conferencing systems.
  • Familiarity and functional experience with main frame distribution cable, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a diverse team.

Required other

  • Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including evenings.
  • Relevant industry certification.

Desired qualifications

Desired experience

  • Five years' relevant experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of uninterruptible power supply (UPS/DC) power distribution.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
