General summary

Manages all activities associated with Writing Center operations and development.

Major duties

  • Designs, implements, and assesses writing center programs to meet the needs of students, including classes and workshops.
  • Provides training on how to address Artificial Intelligence used by students to provide ethical guidance, as determined by the plagiarism policy.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises Writing Center consultants and staff to provide theoretical writing assistance and Artificial Intelligence expertise to invested departments. Schedules training sessions and professional development activities.
  • Identifies services to enhance the Writing Center programs. Collects data on Artificial Intelligence trends impacting student clientele.
  • Responds to requests from students, staff, faculty, and administration. Consults with faculty and administrators to ensure support for the Writing Center.
  • Collaborates with faculty and staff on assignments, curriculum, technology for classes and on writing development projects.
  • Serves as a liaison to Faculty Senate committees and other key stakeholders regarding Artificial Intelligence.
  • Creates courses, workshops and training materials, including teaching materials and handouts, regarding Artificial Intelligence, best practices, and ethics. Updates promotional materials, including the website and online information.
  • Maintains an active research agenda. Presents original scholarship at professional conferences. Publishes in peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed journals which may incorporate expertise in Artificial Intelligence
  • Collaborates with others to develop grants.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution

Required experience

  • Two years' relevant experience.

Required other

  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with coursework in rhetorical writing and Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) theory and pedagogy.
  • Knowledge of student development and writing development needs.
  • Knowledge of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) on-line instruction.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
