FAQs

General Questions

The PBL in Higher Ed Conference is an excellent opportunity for higher education instructors to dive into professional learning focused on high-quality PBL. We welcome instructors, teaching and learning leaders, instructional designers, and others in instructional roles to join colleagues from a number of institutions on their PBL journeys.

This event isn’t your ordinary conference, which will consist of a variety of short sessions with many different presenters. It's an immersive professional learning experience focused on supporting educators as they create projects and plans for implementing Gold Standard PBL in their courses and institutions. You’ll be actively engaged in deep, focused, real work with your peer collaborators.

PBL for Higher Ed is hosted by Western Michigan University, and the content and sessions are brought to you by The Buck Institute for Education (PBLWorks).

Event check-in will take place onsite at the Western Michigan University Student Center. Participants who start the week with Pre-Conference workshops on Monday can register on the morning of the Pre-Conference from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in Sangren Hall.

Check-in is open for participants joining us for the Conference on Monday from noon to 4 p.m. in the Swain Library within Sangren Hall or Tuesday from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the Western Michigan University Student Center.

Your learning will be guided by a member of PBLWorks’ expert National Faculty, who is prepared to bring you an engaging and highly interactive experience. You will experience Project Based Learning in action with your fellow participants — including large- and small-group discussions and direct communication with your facilitator. We encourage you to take advantage of breakfast and lunch when you can mix and mingle and make new friends in the WMU student center dining area.

Please plan to bring a laptop and charger to the event. The event site will provide free Wifi access for all participants.

In the Midwest, we always recommend dressing in layers. Consider bringing a jacket for cooler temperatures and the workshops. While we are in air-conditioned rooms, you will want to have the ability to adjust according to your needs. We also recommend bringing a reusable water bottle.
