Throughout various publications, there is no consistent use of the term “quiet quitting.” However, most articles describe it as employees simply doing their job as specified in the job description and not going above and beyond with a great sense of ownership in their work outcomes. My perspective is that quiet quitting isn’t anything new.

Felix Sithiphone: Finding the fun in governmental accounting and life

Sithiphone has engaged in several meaningful projects as a volunteer: For the MLK Day of Reading, “I read books with students in Kalamazoo Public Schools, ranging from first to sixth grade and was mesmerized by the intelligence and fluency from grade to grade,” he says. At the Washington D.C. Capital Area Food Bank, he notes, “This experience combined two of my previous jobs prior to WMU graduation: merchandising at Meijer and FedEx package handling. It’s grounding to know that just 13 years ago, I was at the very beginning of my career.”

Jana Walker’s focus on the future

.; and Deloitte, she has been able to explore corporate finance and has taken deep dives into tax and audit. All of that great experience made Walker a prime candidate as she entered the job search. “My internships taught me what professionalism looks like,” she notes. She received five job offers, eventually committing to Deloitte, where she will join the audit practice after completing her Master of Science in Accountancy at WMU Haworth in summer of 2023.
