According to FERPA a school official has a legitimate education interest if the official needs to review the education record in order to fulfill his or her job responsibilities on behalf of the University. Faculty and staff should not access student academic records unless their job duties specifically require access. Student information should never be accessed for personal reasons or out of curiosity.

Study abroad on rise at WMU, international enrollment holds steady

The latest figures for the 2014-15 academic year show that international students and their dependents contributed $30.5 billion to the U.S. economy, and NAFSA estimates that 373,000 jobs were created or supported during the same time frame. This is a 9.7 percent increase in job support and creation, and a nearly 14 percent increase in dollars contributed to the economy over the previous academic year.

Dr. Steve Durbin
Global Engagement
Durbin came to WMU in July 2013 with “several decades” of experience as an engineering professor and researcher. He initially planned to become a computer sciences engineer, but while working his way through school doing odd jobs he ended up working in an electrical engineering lab. His main responsibility was moving liquid nitrogen between two buildings for an MBE lab. “The MBE I brought to WMU turned out to be in that research lab,” Durbin said.
