WMU to offer two new interdisciplinary majors

"The major was developed to meet the rise in demand for health care information professionals from the health care and related industries," says Dr. Kay Palan, dean of the Haworth College of Business. "According to the American Health Information Management Association, job openings for health informatics and information management majors have doubled over the past two years and remain on the rise," says Dr. Earlie Washington, dean, of the College of Health and Human Services.

More than 1,100 people applied for the $25,000 fellowship, which Traci will use to pursue her creative writing specialty in poetry. A team of nine Western Michigan University advertising and promotion students has placed first in the EdVenture Partners’ Jobs for America’s Graduates Scholastic Achievement Award Challenge in Washington, D.C. The students, advised by Dr. JoAnne Atkin, participated in the competition as part of their fall 2012 capstone work for the Integrated Marketing Communications Campaigns course.

Ethics Center starts spring season with Ninth Amendment talk

There is much that is unclear about the intent of the Constitution's framers, but one thing is not: everybody--the courts, Congress, the president--is supposed to interpret the Constitution when they do their jobs. Kalt argues the Ninth Amendment is a perfect place for Congress to reassert its proper role. Before coming to the MSU College of Law, Kalt worked at the Washington, D.C., office of Sidley and Austin in one of the top appellate law practices in the country.

School of Medicine announces accreditation at groundbreaking

Free college-level courses offered to income-eligible residents

If vacancies due to attrition occur, community members are invited to fill the available spots. Those who graduate from the program receive letters of recommendation based on their class performance that can be used to obtain jobs, housing and other community resources. Community partners launch program Humanities for Everybody is the product of conversations begun in 2010 about Bard College's Clemente Course.

Three to be inducted into WMU's Aviation Hall of Honor

His support for and commitment to WMU's program were essential to the college's successful development and current reputation. He worked tirelessly, helping WMU students find jobs after graduation and even offering them free check rides. After retiring in 1986, Schiffer volunteered his time and expertise as manager of the Otsego-Plainwell Airport and was a volunteer with the Kalamazoo Air Zoo.

Twenty incoming students win $50,000 Medallion Scholarships

Jackson has volunteered to help with tissue culturing in the research labs at Oakland University, and at the Macomb Humane Society Animal Shelter.
