All-You-Can-Eat Sweets in Japan

Grace Gettig
Imagine: a buffet of desserts, all lined-up, ready for the taking. Well, I didn’t have to imagine it, I got to experience it.
My classmate’s friend told her about a place not far from our university that offered all-you-can-eat sweets for really cheap. Of course, we HAD to go check it out.
The place was called Sweets Paradise. I believe it’s a chain, but we went to the one in Lalaport Mall in Fujimino.
All-You-Can-Eat Options
Just sweets for 50 min: 1,080 yen (~$10)
Sweets and the drink bar for 70 min: 1,300 yen (~$13)
Sweets, drink bar, plus ice cream for 80 min: 1,500 yen (~$15)
Round One
My classmate and I went for the sweets and drink bar set, and the clock started counting down!
Here you can see a citrus mini-cupcake, lemon glaze cake, mini strawberry cream cake, a chocolate banana roll cake, tiramisu, and strawberry shortcake.
I didn’t care for the citrus ones do much, but everything else was delicious!
Round Two
Going up for round two, life was good. I decided to try a few more different cakes before maybe getting more of the previous ones I liked.
Here we have super chocolate, strawberry shortcake, and strawberry glaze cake.
At this point I was starting to feel a bit… not great. There was just so much cream in those cakes. Made my stomach a not-happy camper.
Break Time
Time for something salty to combat all that sugar. They had popcorn with all kinds of flavoring powders! Perfect!
Final
This is as far as I could get with my second plate. So many yummy desserts, not enough room in my stomach.
I love sweet things, so I’m glad I got to experience an all-you-can-eat dessert buffet. To my knowledge, we don’t have these in Michigan, and if we did it would cost way more.
If you get a chance, try going to a dessert buffet in Japan! Be sure to wear your stretchy pants though… What’s your favorite dessert from a country other than yours? Share it in the comments! Mine is Japanese Taiyaki, a fish-shaped pancake with bean-paste or cream inside.
