Restaurant life In Italy

Italy is the country of food, so going out to eat is a must do while visiting. However eating out isn’t quite the same as it is in the states. In Italy food isn’t just something you eat, it’s something you experience. At home I’m used to going out, ordering food, eating it, paying for it, and then leaving. Here you order your food and you eat... and eat... and eat. It’s very normal here for people to order three course meals plus dessert on the daily. Eating is an event here and is something you do to spend time with the people you care about. Not only is the way we preserve food different but also the way they order is also different. Here when you order food you order your drinks and all of your food at once. Also here you have to pay for water, it doesn't cost very much but it can still add up. The waiters also don’t check in on the table often so when your done eating and when you want your check you have to be sure to tell them. Otherwise you could be sitting there for a couple hours. Obviously the quality and freshness of the food is also very different. Of course in the U.S. you can go out to eat at very high-end restaurants and have wonderful food, but here you can go to a lower end restaurant and it still tastes like the best pasta you have ever had. I do think this has everything to do with the fact that here the produce is fresher and local. Overall going out to eat in Italy is one of the best things to do here. It’s an experience and it’s absolutely wonderful.
