My University Experience

My University (or Uni as it is commonly known here in the UK) experience has been much similar to college in the States, with a few notable exceptions. Almost all of my peers are quite a bit younger than me. Though, this is my fifth year in school, so that isn’t too different than at home. I would say the chief difference is that most of my fellow students are younger than 21. Though, because the drinking age is 18 here, the attitude towards alcohol is quite different for most of my peers.
At WMU, my program of study is Rhetoric and Writing studies. In my classes, I typically study the English language closer to a linguistic level than to a literary level. That is, instead of only having readings and interpreting them, my professors typically look a little deeper into why something is written the way it is and what that means.
At MMU, there is no rhetoric degree, so I’ve been studying literature. This doesn’t bother me so much as the subject was what caused me to study English, though not ending up being my program of study. I’ve been taking Shakespeare, American Spaces, Children’s Literature as well as Critical and Cultural Theory.
