2019 Campaign
WESTERN UNITED 2019-20
The United Way of Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region drives partnerships and programs that tackle the root causes of infant mortality, as well as help children read and learn so they can graduate; help families get out of poverty to become financially stable; and make sure people get food, shelter and basic necessities in tough times. Your financial gift will support these goals:
- Improve the regional graduation rate to 83% by 2030 and reduce racial and economic disparities in graduation rates with a focus on early childhood success and kindergarten readiness.
- Transition 8,500 households to economic stability by 2025 by providing stable and affordable housing.
- Improve infant mortality rates in families of color and low-income families by 2025 by focusing on physical, mental and behavioral health for families and infants.
- Ensure a safety net of basic services for people in crisis such as food and shelter and other basic necessities.
The theme for this year's campus campaign is "Western United," as we commit as a WMU family of students, faculty, staff and retirees to support our fundraising goal of $200,000 and our shared vision of a vibrant community.
But we know money alone is not going to achieve these big goals. You can also volunteer through United Way or with an organization important to you. Finally, be an advocate and share with friends and peers how we can change the story together.
In recognition of your support, any new, undesignated gift of at least $50, automatically enters you in a drawing for up to $28,000 applied to the car of your choice from one of the sponsoring dealerships. In order to be included in this special thank you drawing, your pledge form must be received at the WMU Office of the President 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8. The winner will be announced by the United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region on Thursday, Dec. 19.
In addition, we are once again supporting a children's book drive for students in kindergarten through the third grade. Collection boxes for the Book-It Campaign will be available in buildings throughout campus during the month of October. There are also opportunities to donate online.
Thank you for caring about our community and your thoughtful consideration of continues support in the United Way. Together, we can impact people’s lives!
