International Student Activities

Western Michigan University's International Student Activities office, in collaboration with the student-run International Programs Council, facilitates regular and ongoing international activities on campus, such as an International Festival and a week-long celebration of International Education Week.

The International Student Activities office also plans numerous service-learning, cultural, and recreational activities to help international students engage with the campus and local community.

Summer 2017 Events

Tuesday, May 23

  • Welcome Party—Join teachers and staff in welcoming new international students with food, fun and games. Free and open to the public.

Wednesday, May 24

Thursday, June 1

  • Volunteering: Story Telling!—Join international students in reading stories from different cultures to local school children. Registration required by visiting 3516, 3521 or 3530 Ellsworth Hall or emailing intl-outreach@wmich.edu. Free and open to the public. 

Friday, June 2

  • International Night with the Kalamazoo Growlers—Join international and domestic students at the 4th annual International Night with the Kalamazoo Growlers. Registration required by visiting 3516, 3521 or 3530 Ellsworth Hall or emailing intl-outreach@wmich.edu. Tickets are $5 and include bus transportation, entrance and all you can eat food and soft drinks. Open to the public.

  • Shipshewana Trip—Join international and domestic students as they visit the traditional Amish village in Indiana. Open to the public.

  • Henry Ford and Greenfield Village—Join international and domestic students as they visit the historic museum in Dearborn, Michigan. Registration required; open to the public.

Wednesday, July 19

  • International Champions Cup—Join International Student Activities in traveling to Comerica Park in Detroit to watch the International Champions Cup games. Registration and ticket payment required by visiting 3516, 3521 or 3530 Ellsworth Hall or emailing intl-outreach@wmich.edu; tickets include transportation. Open to the public.

Thursday, July 20

  • Ice cream social—Join International Student Activities for free ice cream, raffles and games. Open to the public.

Saturday, July 29

  • Frankenmuth and Birch Run Outlet Mall—Join International Student Activities in traveling to Frankenmuth to experience the historic Bavarian town and to visit the Birch Run Outlet Malls. Registration required; open to the public.
