Academics
The Western Michigan University music composition faculty provide training in acoustic and electronic music composition based on the student's own intentions and interests, while also challenging students to grow. The faculty help students to develop as composers, critical listeners, creative thinkers, and musicians so that they can be successful in achieving creative goals. The program provides skills for students interested in a variety of creative careers involving music composition, including concert music, movie music, video game music and multimedia. Additionally, student composers receive training in musicianship, music theory, musicology and instrumental performance as part of their degree program.
