Engineering 3D Printing Lab

Located in Floyd Hall, the 3-D print lab allows for students, faculty and registered student organizations affiliated with the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences an opportunity to learn about 3D printing and to request 3D printed objects. Please read all instructions before requesting to print.

  • Requesting a 3D print

Please read the steps below before requesting a 3D print job.

    1. User creates the 3D part.
    2. Before uploading part to be printed they must make sure that their STL file is ready.
    3. Making sure of no errors, opening their own STL files using Cura.
    4. Completely fill out form that is linked below.
    5. Once the form is received, the lab operators will check the part’s complexity. The prints are viewed as being made of triangles.
    6. The lab operator analyzes the file and making sure it is properly set up.
    7. If file is ready to go, it is uploaded to Cura (slicer).
    8. The part is previewed and an X-ray taken to see print lines.
    9. Once the lab operator approves the print, it is added to an online private queue that is directly connected with the printers which allows job tracking based on filament consumption, print time, availability, nozzle size, and what prints are next up.
    10. After being added to the queue, the customer is notified that the print is ready to be printed. At this point, the customer must confirm that the print is still needed before the job is completed.
