The Engineering Design, Manufacturing and Management Systems Department
One of nine academic departments in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the College has programs in engineering, engineering technology, and applied sciences. In the Fall of 2003, the college moved into a new $100 million, 270-acre engineering campus. This site includes a new 343,000 square foot engineering complex and a Business Technology and Research Park.
Business Technology Research Park
In just over 10 years, more than 50 private-sector businesses have been attracted to WMU’s BTR Park. Over 1,400 direct and indirect jobs have been retained and created. Of these businesses, eight have constructed their own facilities in the BTR Park.
History
The EDMMS department is a direct descendant of the Department of Manual Arts, which held its first classes in the fall of 1904. In 1995, the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department was formed to merge the Industrial Engineering Department with the manufacturing components of the Department of Engineering Technology. In 2014, the EDMMS department was spun off from the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department to allow faculty and students to focus on a common theme, the application of technology to the design, manufacturing and management systems.
