Western Michigan University's campus utilities deliver services to over 150 buildings, consisting of:
Electrical Distribution System
- Approximately 14 miles of duct bank with over 20 miles of medium voltage cable
- 166 access vaults
- 219 primary switches
- Over 39 miles of exterior lightning and secondary voltage conduit
Steam and Condensate Systems for Heating and Hot Water
- Approximately 6.6 miles of steam main
- Approximately 6.2 miles of condensate return mains
- 44 access vaults
Chilled Water
- Chilled, cooling towers, chilled water and condenser lines providing air conditioning to 33 buildings
- 11,000 ton-hour available cooling capacity
Storm Sewer System
- 1,816 manhole/inlet structures.
- Approximately 32.6 miles of storm water main
- 78 Main Campus discharge points within the Arcadia Creek watershed
- 62 Storm Water Retention/Detention Features (22 acres)
- Parkview Campus contains all storm water on site
Sanitary Sewer System
- 298 manhole structures
- Approximately 8.7 miles of sanitary sewer mains
- Approximately 1.9 miles of sanitary sewer laterals
Water System*
- Approximately 1.3 miles of Western Michigan University water mains
- Approximately 22 miles of City of Kalamazoo owned and maintained water mains
Natural Gas System**
- Over 10 miles of Consumer Energy owned and maintained gas mains
Tunnel System
- Approximately2.4 miles of Utility Tunnels, carrying multiple distribution systems
