Incandescent to Compact Fluorescent Lamps Conversion
Wherever possible, Western Michigan University has replaced all screw-type incandescent bulbs ranging from 40 watts up to 300 watts with compact fluorescent lamps. The lamps range from 13 watts to 68 watts. The energy cost savings to the University are approximately $150,000 per year. The conversion to compact fluorescent lamps has other benefits as well:
- The difference in cost per bulb from incandescent to compact fluorescent lamps results in a total annual savings of approximately $30,000.
- Because of the extended bulb life of a compact fluorescent lamps, maintenance replacement costs are reduced generating a savings of approximately $254,000 annually.
