The Business Case For Sustainability with Dr. Tim Palmer

Strategic Marketing with Dr. Derrick McIver
If there is one trend that has demonstrated staying power over the past few decades, it is the movement of strategy formulation from corporate headquarters into the core business. This has elevated the importance of strategic thinking for all employees. Yet, most businesses lose focus because they misunderstand the true profitability of customers, customer groups, products and services and how companies actually compete with sustainable competitive advantages. This session will use mergers and acquisitions discussion as a tool to explore strategic frameworks, strategic renewal, innovation, sustainable competitive advantage, strategic analysis and strategic decision making. In a practical hands-on experience, you will return to your company with an introduction to strategic decision making for leaders framed around mergers and acquisitions.
Case Projects Teams with Bob Samples
Case Approach: Each group will be asked to take a position on some aspect of the case study and present their argument and findings to all of the participants. Case studies to be assigned to participant teams include:
- The ethics case study will examine an organization faced with an ethical dilemma and the groups will explore various courses of action and defend their proposed solutions.
- The organizational development case will explore an organization facing a multitude of challenges, changes and opportunities. The groups will use a common organizational development framework to analyze the organization and make recommendations for improvement.
- In the sustainability case study, groups will examine a business faced with challenges with committing to and implementing sustainable business practices. Groups will generate feasible options and evaluate them using suitable decision criteria.
- The toxic leadership case addresses one of the most difficult leadership challenges within an organization. The group will examine an organization plagued by toxic leadership and explore methods for addressing it.
- The strategy implementation case study will examine how an organization develops a strategy for growth and positive change. Groups will examine an organization’s vision and mission, explore its core competencies and culture and recommend balanced organizational controls. The participants may want to use their own organizations for this type of case study.
