Western Michigan University Celebrates International Education Week Nov. 8-15
KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Western Michigan University's Haenicke Institute for Global Education invites students, faculty, staff and community members to celebrate the power of international education during International Education Week, Nov. 8-15, with a series of events highlighting global learning, cultural exchange and cross-cultural connections.
Observed nationwide, International Education Week recognizes the benefits of international education and cultural exchange. At WMU, the weeklong celebration will feature cultural events, student presentations, educational workshops and other global engagement opportunities designed to connect people from around the world.
"International Education Week gives us all an opportunity to recognize WMU's amazing international community and programs, as well as to be thankful for WMU's commitment to a global perspective," says Dr. Rosemary Max, associate vice president of the Haenicke Institute for Global Education.
A centerpiece of this year's celebration is the Global Showcase on Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the WMU Student Center. At the showcase attendees can meet study abroad faculty leaders, hear directly from students about their international research and experiences, learn about the countries represented at WMU and discover the impact of global learning.
Participants can also engage in a wide variety of other activities throughout the week, including a global food tasting, a film showing, a visit to the museum and faculty lectures.
The week also highlight the University's Welcome Here Campaign, which promotes a welcoming environment for international students and scholars. Community members can visit campaign information tables to learn more about supporting international students, pick up materials and contribute to the International Student Emergency Fund.
Additional events and opportunities may be added throughout the week. A full schedule and event details is available at: wmich.edu/global/events/international-education-week.
