Healthy Campus 2020 at WMU

The Healthy Campus 2020 Initiative at WMU is known as BeHealthyWMU. The name and logo was selected with input from a diverse group of students, staff, and faculty and represents a call to action for individuals and the University community at large. BeHealthyWMU is a combination of existing and new strategies prioritized to meet defined objectives and outcomes.

The following timeline highlights key points in history for Healthy Campus 2020 at WMU:

Spring 2013
A multidisciplinary group of WMU staff, faculty, and students was formed as the Health and Safety Project Action Team reporting to the Equity, Diversity and Social Sustainability Tactical Action Community resulting from the launch of the University Strategic Plan.

Summer 2013
The Health and Safety PAT recommended WMU adopt the Healthy Campus 2020 framework as an organizational structure to advance a healthy, safe campus community and to determine priority health and safety issues at WMU.

Fall 2013
This initial group reviewed an extensive amount of data, goals, and objectives from WMU and national sources in order to inform a recommendation to prioritize three student health goals (mental health, substance use, and violence prevention) and two employee health goals (tobacco free campus and incentive-based employee wellness program).

Spring 2014
Health and Safety PAT transitioned from a subgroup of the Equity, Diversity and Social Sustainability TAC to become its own distinct strategic planning group, the Healthy Campus 2020 Tactical Action Community.
