B.S. in exercise science course listings
Exercise science is the study of the acute responses and long-term adaptations the human body experiences with physical activity and exercise. The exercise science major includes coursework in the basic sciences, physiology of exercise, biomechanics, fitness assessment, exercise testing & prescription, strength & conditioning, sport psychology, and the clinical aspects of exercise.
There are three concentrations within this program: human performance, clinical/pre-professional, and strength & conditioning. All of the concentrations integrate classroom study with hands-on practical experiences to provide students with a comprehensive level of academic preparation. Many courses include laboratory or field work experiences. The degree culminates with a capstone experience, where students can choose to complete an internship, a research project, or they can begin taking graduate classes toward an MS degree in exercise science.
Graduates from this program will be well prepared for certification exams such as ACSM’s Certified Exercise Physiologist and NSCA’s Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. This major is ideal for students interested in positions relating to health promotion, strength and conditioning, clinical rehabilitation, personal fitness training, and sport performance. The exercise science program is also appropriate for students interested in pursuing advanced or professional degrees in physical therapy, occupational therapy, medicine, physician assistant, athletic training, chiropractic, exercise physiology or biomechanics.
A “C” grade or better is required for all exercise science major classes.
No minor required.
