Helping students understand concepts in IT management and computer networking is what Dr. Pairin Katerattanakul, professor of business information systems, has loved most about his 20-year career at the Haworth College of Business.

He came to WMU in 2000 and developed courses in business programming and microcomputer applications, using several different programming languages. He then developed and taught many different undergraduate and graduate courses. Since 2013, his teaching focus has been on computer networking, data communications and IT management courses.

When he’s not in the classroom, Pairin can be found delving into his scholarly interests. “Research is my passion and is what I do when I am not teaching,” he says. “Incorporating my research into my teaching ensures that our students receive the most current stream of innovation.” His most recent research interests have been in IT management and information security.

Pairin identifies three high points during his tenure at WMU: developing a computer networking lab with Cisco networking devices in the college of business, coaching a team of three WMU students to first place in an international case study competition, and earning a program excellence award in IT management.

“I was fortunate that I had the opportunity to work for a fine university and interact with many excellent students,” Pairin says. “I am sure that our students will be able to apply the knowledge they learn and excel in their careers.”
