Dr. Elise DeCamp is a a faculty specialist in the Institute for Intercultural and Anthropological Studies and the Part-time Faculty Fellow for the Office of Faculty Development at Western Michigan University.
Before her arrival to WMU in 2013, she completed a year as the Future Faculty Teaching Fellow at Indiana University South Bend in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. She has published, presented, and taught on the potential of social justice humor and comedy with a focus on how strategies of persuasion in stand-up comedy facilitate the reshaping of American attitudes toward race and identity. More recently DeCamp has completed and published research on racial bias in jury selection that has received national and regional media coverage. Her current research explores how higher education institutions might best support curricular integration of climate change education across the disciplines, with a particular focus on interdisciplinary professional development and transformative learning approaches.
DeCamp recently received a 2019 College of Arts and Sciences Part-time Instructor Excellence in Teaching Award.
