German Catalog Changes

The catalog requirements have changed for the German major and minor in the Department of Languages at Western Michigan University.

Summary of catalog changes to the major

2001-present non-teaching

  • Thirty-two hours beyond 1000-level to include GER 3160, 3170, 3220, 3250, 4520, 4530, and six hours of 5000-level GER courses.
  • Neither GER 4000 nor 4010 can be counted toward the major. LANG 5580 cannot be included in this major.

2001-present teaching

  • Thirty-five hours beyond 1000-level to include GER 3160, 3170, 3220, 3250, 4520, 4530, six hours of 5000-level GER courses, and LANG 5580.
  • Neither GER 4000 nor 4010 can be counted toward the major.

1999-2001 non-teaching

  • Thirty-two hours beyond 1000-level to include GER 3160, 3170, 3220, 3250, 4520, 4530, and six hours of 5000-level GER courses.
  • GER 4000, 4010 and 5580 cannot be included in a non-teaching major.

1999-2001 teaching

  • Majors in the education curriculum must take 35 hours beyond 1000-level to include GER 3160, 3170, 3220, 3250, 4520, 4530, six hours of 5000-level GER courses, plus GER 5580.

Catalog changes to the minor

2001-present non-teaching

  • Twenty-three hours beyond the 1000-level to include GER 3160, 3170, 3220, 3250, 4520 or 4530.
  • Neither GER 4000 nor 4010 can be counted toward the minor. LANG 5580 cannot be included in this minor.

2001-present teaching

  • Twenty-nine hours beyond the 1000-level to include GER 2000, 2010, 3160, 3170, 3220, 3250, 4520 or 4530, LANG 5580, and one 5000-level literature course.
  • Neither GER 4000 nor 4010 can be counted toward the minor.

1999-2001 non-teaching

  • Twenty-three hours beyond the 1000-level to include GER 3160, 3170, 3220, 3250, 4520 or 4530. GER 4000, 4010, and 5580 cannot be included in a non-teaching minor.

1999-2001 teaching

  • Minors in the education curriculum must take 29 hours beyond the 1000-level to include GER 2000, 2010, 3160, 3170, 3220, 3250, 4520 or 4530, 5580, and one 5000-level literature course.
