Part-Time Instructional Opportunities

The Department of World Languages and Literatures at Western Michigan University occasionally seeks individuals with an advanced degree to teach on a part-time basis. At this time, we are only seeking a part-time instructor to teach first-year Hindi and Urdu languages (see description below). The World Languages and Literatures Department at Western Michigan University is seeking a part-time instructor to teach first-year Hindi and Urdu languages. This course is being offered in conjunction with WMU’s Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Language grant, running 2016-2019.
 
This non-benefits-eligible part-time position will include one four credit-hour course which meets twice per week.
The course will employ a four skills approach: speaking, writing, reading, and listening.
 
Instructors must have:

  • At least a Masters Degree in South Asian Studies, comparative literature, or language pedagogy. Exceptions can be made for applicants with substantial experience in Hindi/Urdu language instruction.
  • Previous experience offering Hindi/Urdu language to non-heritage speakers
  • Ability to teach both Devanagari and Nastaliq scripts
  • Facility with explaining South Asia cultural contexts as they relate to language learning

 
This is a one-year position with a possibility for renewal over the course of the grant period. For qualified applicants, additional part-time teaching may be had in other departments depending on availability.
 
Additionally, WMU has received a substantial donation of Hindi and Urdu language instruction materials which will be made available to the instructor.
